Role and contribution

 

Dr van der A is an investigator of the RIVM cohort of EPIC in the area of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity and will contribute to InterAct in RLs 1, 2 and 3.

 

Scientific profile

 

Dr van der A is trained in medical biology and epidemiology. She conducted her PhD study at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care in Utrecht, investigating the role of iron in cardiovascular disease. During her PhD she obtained her MSc in Genetic Epidemiology at the National Institute of Health Sciences. In September 2004 she was appointed as a researcher at the Centre for Nutrition and Health of the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in Bilthoven. Her current research activities and interests include investigating the role of lifestyle factors, genetic susceptibility and the development of chronic diseases i.e. diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. She is project leader for the RIVM in the EU 6th framework project DiOGenes and participates in projects investigating gene-diet interactions in healthy ageing and the development of the metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, Dr van der A is responsible for several projects on the authority of the Dutch Ministry of Health.
