Role and contribution

 

Dr Langenberg will assist Prof Wareham in the coordination of the InterAct project, specifically Research Line 1, by leading the supervision of case ascertainment and verification in the EPIC-Europe InterAct centres.  She will contribute to the identification and implementation of a strategy for control selection, the construction of the nested case-control study, provision of details for sample retrieval, establishment of a central database for information collected as part of the InterAct project and the co-ordination of the analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction.

 

 

Scientific profile

 

Dr Langenberg holds a medical doctorate from the University of Münster, Germany, an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Epidemiology from University College London.  Dr Langenberg has worked on a number of large cohort studies, including the 1946 British Birth Cohort, the Whitehall Studies, the Rancho Bernardo Study, Project Viva and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis in collaboration with colleagues across the UK and the US.  She is currently working on genetic epidemiological studies of diabetes and related metabolic traits using diabetes case-control and ongoing cohort studies.
