Role and contribution

Dr Tormo contributes to workpackages 1.1 and 1.2, 1.3, 2.6 and 4.3.

Scientific profile

Dr Tormo is actively engaged in a community survey on diabetes, which includes aspects of the metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.  This is part of a national project for estimating the risk for major cardiovascular events according baseline characteristics.  Dr Tormo contributes to different sub-groups within EPIC and EPIC-Spain e.g. The EPIC Spanish project on markers of potential dietary carcinogens and its relationship with dietary intake and genetic susceptibility: a) aromatic DNA-adducts and polymorphisms of some metabolic enzymes; b) determination of the adducts between 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP) with haemoglobin and c) determination of chlorinated pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls).
