RL1 Analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction in observational studies of diabetes incidence
The overall goal of this Research Line was to construct a
nested case-cohort study for T2D within the EPIC observational cohort and to
use this study as the basis for studying gene-lifestyle interaction.
- Follow up has been completed for an average of 8 years,
which provided 4 million ‘person years’.
During this time 12,403 verified incident cases of type 2 diabetes were
identified.
- A subcohort of 16,154 controls free of diabetes at baseline has
also been identified.
- DNA extraction and genotyping has been undertaken using
centralised high throughput methods.
- A central database for baseline, genetic and biomarker
information has been created.
- A bespoke on line password protected ‘extranet’ website has
been created to co-ordinate the activities for analysis in the InterAct project.
