RL2 Analysis of nutritional factors and physical activity in observational studies of diabetes incidence

fruit.jpg
The overall goal of this Research Line is to study the association of nutritional, dietary and physical activity behaviours with incident diabetes in the nested case-control study and to contribute to the analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction.

Research Line specific objectives

  • To provide information from self-report questionnaires on the estimated intake of specified nutrients in the individuals selected for the nested case-control study and to co-ordinate the analysis of the association of self-reported nutrient intake with incident diabetes.
  • To characterise the food and overall dietary pattern of participants in the nested case-control study and to describe the association between these factors and incident diabetes.
  • To co-ordinate the analysis of the association of nutritional biomarkers and incident diabetes.
  • To analyse the role of intermediate pathways in explaining the interaction between lifestyle behaviours and genetic factors on the incidence of diabetes.
  • To utilise discovery approaches to investigating potential pathways using methods that are not dependent upon prior knowledge such as metabolomics.
  • To validate the EPIC physical activity questionnaires and study the association of activity with incident diabetes.
