RL4 Analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction in intervention studies

The overall goal of this Research Line was to construct a consortium of lifestyle intervention diabetes prevention trials in order to study the association of the genetic variation with differential response to the lifestyle intervention and to consider the implications of these findings for preventive action.

  • To examine biologically plausible gene-lifestyle interactions in the context of existing clinical trials where the incidence of T2D is the outcome measure.
  • To develop methods for meta-analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction on diabetes incidence within the consortium of trials included within InterAct and those that undertake genotyping of the same variants outside of the consortium (e.g. US Diabetes Prevention Program).
  • To consider the implications of findings of gene-lifestyle interaction on diabetes incidence for preventive action at the individual-level and at the level of societal policies.
